PRIDE Centre Meeting Minutes
October 6, 2010
Present: Emma, Tanner, Sarah, Tristen, Josh, Amanda, General Members
1. Welcome (7:09)
2. Additions/Amendments to the Agenda
2.1. There are none.
3. Reports
3.1. President
3.1.1. Emma has nothing to report.
3.2. Vice President
3.2.1. Tanner will bring membership cards to the next meeting so if you need one talk to him.
3.3. Treasurer
3.3.1. Tristen has a bunch of checks equaling almost $900 that have not cleared. So please cash your checks soon after Tristen gives them to you.
3.4. Web Administrator
3.4.1. Josh has not looked up where to buy our domain, so if you have suggestions let him know.
3.5. Events Coordinator
3.5.1. Amanda wants to fundraise so if you have ideas talk to her.
3.5.1.1. Someone suggest offering ourselves off, Stephen volunteers himself.
4. Resource Centre Update
4.1. Unofficially we will have the centre by mid November if everything goes as planned.
4.1.1. When we open the centre we will publicize it a lot, it will probably involve a giant ribbon and giant scissors.
4.1.2. Allan from the SU loves us a lot and will make sure we can remove a bathroom. He is going to have it approved by the rest of the Student’s Union.
4.2. Finances
4.2.1. If we come in under budget then the $2000 we put in will come back to us. We can spend more money on books, resources, furniture, etc.
4.3. Internet
4.3.1. Will we have to pay? The Women’s Centre does not have to pay but someone will check with IT.
4.4. Phone Line
4.4.1. We will have to pay for a phone line which will be about $38 per/month.
4.5. Furniture
4.5.1. We are fairly sure that we can buy our own.
4.6. Interior Decorating Decisions
4.6.1. They are letting us choose the color of the carpet.
4.6.1.1. Tanner is very excited.
4.6.2. They are also letting us paint the room whatever color we choose.
4.6.2.1. Rainbow is suggested as an option.
4.7. Computer
4.7.1. We will talk to University in May about getting a desktop, as they give away a lot of them.
4.7.2. Tanner really wants a laptop for Queeraoke purposes, to stream events or lectures, for meetings, etc.
4.8. Sponsors
4.8.1. Look into getting donors
4.8.1.1. We could either acknowledge them or name the room if the donation is large enough.
5. OUTspoken Update
5.1. No update since last meeting, we are still partnering with GALA/LA. Tyson is crazy busy but we can start bugging him Tuesday to have another meeting.
6. Events
6.1. Movie Night
6.1.1. October 13 7pm in Anderson Hall Room 116
6.1.1.1. We will be watching Philadelphia and Ginger Snaps.
6.1.1.2. Someone suggests a Rocky Horror Picture Show Night in February as it will be half way to Halloween.
6.2. Corn Maze
6.2.1. October 15 6:30pm. We are meeting outside the Tim Horton’s (in the PE Building).
6.2.2. We are doing it with the Fire Spinners.
6.2.3. Cost is $10 for corn maze and gas.
6.2.4. Waivers must be signed before we go.
6.3. Queeraoke
6.3.1. Jonas / Erica are the new people to talk to, we love them already.
6.3.2. The next one is October 22nd 10pm at the Mix.
6.3.2.1. See how this one goes and then book November and December
6.3.3. Host Kristie? She has offered before.
6.3.3.1. Sam wants to be on the list.
7. High School Program
7.1.1. There have been a lot of suicides of GLBTQ youth in the last month.
7.1.2. Tanner wants to make something happen.
7.2. We will create a group of people who want to talk to the high schools and try to provide them with resources.
7.2.1. Sam is voluntold to be on it. He agrees.
7.3. We will talk to the high schools individually, rather than talking to the school board.
7.4. To start off we will provide the schools with a list of outside resources.
7.5. Safe Space Campaign
7.5.1. Try to bring it to the schools.
7.5.1.1. This will happen after the resource centre is up and running.
7.5.2. Mount Royal is part of the Safe Space Campaign so we should check with them.
7.6. Team up with other groups in order to get the information out.
8. Pride Festival Representative
8.1. The Pride Festival is planning early, so be involved on the board, or at the very least Google it.
8.2. PRIDE Centre Representative
8.2.1. We are thinking of having a PRIDE Centre Rep on the board.
8.2.2. Anyone interested in the position should let either Emma or Tanner know.
8.2.3. Emma or Tanner will send out an e-mail about it to make sure that anyone who wants to be that person can run.
8.2.4. Tanner is interested so if no one else is interested then he will be the Rep.
8.2.5. Heather is the chair for this year.
9. Other
9.1. THE COLLEGE IS GOING TO HAVE A GROUP! (Huge claps)
9.1.1. They are getting the Club set up. This year they will not be doing anything fancy, just putting up posters about it and start getting a group of people together.
9.2. Tape and Supplies for Book Taping
9.2.1. We all approve spending the money
9.2.2. We will need to have book taping parties. Sarah promises they will involve lots of baked goods.
