Meeting Minutes September 7 2010
1. Welcome (started at 7:01 )
a. We are happy the school year has started. Emma is adamant that things are going to get done this year.
i. Please note: meetings are about Executive business, but come if you want to voice your meeting.
2. Amendments to the Agenda
a. Signing Authority on cheques? (See 10 a.)
3. Reports from the Exec
a. None really.
4. Upcoming Events
a. Rush Week
i. It is next week in the Atrium. Anytime you are not in class please come by and help at the table. There will be no sign up, just show up. The tables are first come, first serve every morning, Mike will set up, love him.
b. Queeraoke
i. It is being held Saturday 18th at the Mix at 10pm. There will be a Cher theme. There will prizes for best costume and best performance in a costume. We will need Judges, if you would like to be one talk to Amanda. We need a host, and will check with Fancy!
c. Movie Night
i. September 20th 7pm-11pm in L1060 we are watching But I’m A Cheerleader and Prayer’s for Bobby. Amanda will find Prayers for Bobby.
ii. There will be a quick Clubs Meeting before hand at 6pm
d. Meet and Greet
i. Friday October 1st Tanner and Emma’s House. This is a time for new members and old members to meet, drink, eat, hang out, play games, etc.
5. Associated Events
a. GALA/LA Dance,
i. Happening September 11 9pm at Moose Hall 1401 5th Avenue North. It is titled “Summer’s Over, Welcome Back” Members $5 Non Members $10
b. Rhino in the Room
i. Happening next Wednesday-Saturday.
ii. Wednesday free discussion “The Queer Lens: Queer Representation in the Media” 7pm-11:30pm Anderson Hall 116
iii. Thursday and Friday Night Movies at the Sterndale Bennett Theatre 7pm-11pm
iv. Saturday Matinee Saturday 2pm-5pm PE 264
v. You can buy advanced tickets at Blue Print or Cat walk downtown which are cheaper. You can still buy them at the door.
c. Ghost Town Retreat
i. Run by U of C Chaplaincy non denominational spiritual group, September 24th-26 cost $50 includes transportation, food, etc.
ii. It is a calm relaxing retreat, in a really small town, limited services camping.
iii. Ask Tanner for more details.
d. Big Secret Game
i. Tyson and Nate want 15- 30 Moderators (like a referees) for a secret game happening in October
e. Coming Out day
i. October 11th Thanksgiving
6. House Keeping
a. Meeting Day?
i. Most of the Executive prefer Mondays but Wednesday is also a possibility. We will set a date and make it explicitly clear when they are so we do not have to send out excess e-mails.
ii. They will be tentatively the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month 7pm in clubs rooms.
b. Set dates of Movie Nights
i. They will be the 2nd Monday of the Month, with the exception of the one in October which will be held on Wednesday 13th
ii. We will be creating Posters and putting them everywhere with all the dates for the events happening this semester.
c. Set dates of Queeraoke
i. Amanda will figure out the dates and themes ASAP.
ii. Emma and Tanner would like to meet with April and Amanda (general manager of the building the Mix is in).
d. New Logo/ Tunnel Mural
i. It will happen as soon as possible, and will be advertised during rush week.
ii. For the logo include no ULSU or University, instead make the name: Campus PRIDE, PRIDE center, Campus PRIDE center or any variation of that. Please provide an electronic copy or something that is easy to scan. Do not make it super tall. Please realize that it is a multipurpose logo.
iii. Winner will receive free membership for the year, and Tanner will talk to GALA/LA about a possible prize voucher.
iv. Deadline October 1st and we will announce the winner at Meet and Greet.
e. Membership
i. Pay for membership $5 for 1 Semester $10 for the whole year. We have old membership cards and will use those if we still have them. If not Josh will make new ones. Love Josh!
7. Ideas for other Events/ Fundraising
a. Committee?
i. If you want to be part of the Committee or want events to happen please talk to Amanda.
b. Collaborating with other clubs
i. Climbing Club? In Gaga costumes?
ii. Talk to Amanda with awesome ideas
iii. Movie night with ISA (International Student Association)?
iv. Rhino in the Room Britt and Lindsey Movie Night?
v. Anthropology club, or Sociology club?
vi. New Student Club?
vii. Chaplaincy?
viii. Fire spinning?
ix. Bridges of Hope (Tyson does not know actual name) collect money to buy chickens, other stuff for sustainable things in Africa Tyson taking ownership, finding out information
x. Not necessarily movie nights but bowling or games night
8. OUTspoken-
a. Mini conference That was so awesome we decided to do it again. Tentatively set for March 9-12
b. GALA/LA Involvement?
i. They want to partner with us, we love them. Tyson proposes that we let them create an OUTspoken committee, then we would have an OUTspoken committee. They would combine to create one large committee. The Person from USLU PRIDE will have veto over GALA/LA ideas.
1. GALA/LA Proposes 5-6 day event mostly in the afternoons and evenings. We would split the days between the 2 groups. They want to do things more off campus we would like to do things more on campus.
ii. Tyson will talk to GALA/LA explain that we have reservation. We want to market it as a student run event, in order to ensure there are not going to be issues with LPIRG/SU.
iii. On the other hand, we would lose control, and if they become too involved then it would become more of their event. We have a huge sense of pride that it was student run. We are now known the community and we did that without our big brother. We want it to be Campus run for the community.
iv. Mickey (president of GALA/LA) is afraid that the campus is scary to the average Joe, who might have never been to the University.
v. One option is that we do GALA/LA sponsored events
vi. Tyson wants to meet with the OUTspoken committee ASAP, if you want to be on the committee tell him. It will be a regular twice a month.
1. We will need volunteers up until to March.
2. It would be a better idea to limit locations better if it centralized.
c. Tyson is the OUTspoken chair and representative to GALA/LA
9. Resource Center
a. Update
i. It will happen at some point. Please keep talking to the people in the SU. They are great.
ii. We are getting the original room, which is currently 2 change rooms, down in Floor 0 of the Student’s Union Building.
b. Bathroom Issue
i. There was talk of creating a gender neutral bathroom.
1. We discussed the pros and cons, and general consensus was that there are gender neutral washrooms, (the handicap washrooms)
a. Voted Final decision No washroom.
ii. There is now talk of keeping one of the sinks and making a kitchenette using it.
1. Tanner and Emma will ask about the sink, ask to show the room.
10. Other
a. Extra signing authority on cheques
i. There was concern about how hard it is during the summer to get 2 people to sign the cheques.
1. Better solution, have someone be acting Treasurer for the summer.
a. Tabled until next April
ii. SU has overall superior signing authority if there is an emergency
b. PRIDE at Lethbridge College,
i. It must be internal. We can and will support them in whatever way we can.
1. We can advertise on the campus, for events like OUTspoken.
ii. Release form for pictures?
1. Josh will talk to Nate at SU or Toby at Risk Management. They can help us make a legally valid form
2. Wondering if we could add it to a membership form with some sort of check mark or something like that.
iii. We are going to try to talk to Nate about every event to make the club more legit.
iv. SU is making a book of all the clubs they want pictures. Tyson will look through the OUTspoken stuff, find a good one and get permission from the people in it.
v. There is a corn maze, talk to Nate if interested.
